Meet the Newbies

Hi! We're the new team at WFA. We're excited to have this opportunity to maintain this blog, and to keep delivering links to interesting, thought provoking posts regarding gender in comics. Here's the new team:

Greetings. My name is Maddy. I'm an anthropology student who occasionally finds herself employed, and I love comics. I enjoy political debates, time travel, quesadillas, Simpsons references, walking fast, and arguing with nerds over the internet.

Hello to everyone! I'm Caitlin, known as nevermore999 on livejournal. I'm very into superhero comics (heavy on the DC side of things) and a feminist. Mostly known for my fannishness of Stephanie Brown (though I love a ton of characters, including the Runaways, Wonder Woman, and all the Blue Beetles), I have an LJ called The Adventures of Comic Book (nevermore999.livejournal.com) and I write a column and various articles for Big Shiny Robot (www.bigshinyrobot.com/reviews). I turn 18 in August, and that's also when I start college. I've been following WFA for many months and love the resource it provides, and am very excited to be able to contribute now. I hope to do my part and update frequently.

Hi, I'm Julie aka Manga Maniac, and I'll be tackling the manga side of things. I also run Manga Maniac Cafe (www.mangamaniaccafe.com), and I contribute reviews to MangaCast (www.mangacast.net). I am a former Marvel junkie, and enjoy most genres of comics. I make my living as a bean counter for a computer company, which is a never ending temptation, because I am also addicted to tech gadgets. I like video games, too, so you can bet that I'll occasionally have some video game linkage. Since I am older than dirt, I'll keep that bit of information a secret, but I'm pretty confident that with my spiffy track shoes I can keep up with the younger staff.

Hey all, I'm Laurel aka PixieCorpse, a creative writer, pop culture scholar and feminist. I'm another fan of DC superheroes, particularly Wondy, but I also like indie comics/comix and webcomics. Other interests that might overlap with WFA include animation and cult movies, comic strips and book illustration. I teach English courses as adjunct faculty and tutor football players for my local university. I am old enough to remember being the only chick in the comics shop. I've read WFA almost since its inception and am honored to be involved with such a kick-ass project.

On with the fangirlery!

Hi guys; you are soldiers on the front! Kudos for you all stepping up. You can now say with all seriousness that you are "kind of a big deal in the online feminist comic book community."

Rock on.

Wow, I'm glad to see this place re-staffed so quickly! Great to see you all carrying on!

Hi again Saranga. mordicai, mbeasi, nice to meet you! I'm your default comment answerer, at least for now.

On behalf of the new crew, thanks for the welcomes, and we hope to carry on with the fine job Ragnell and Kalinara were doing. There may be changes, maybe not.

Thanks for bearing with us during this transition period. Linkage aplenty soon, I swear. (-:

Thanks very much to all of you for stepping up to the plate. I've missed WFA a great deal the last few months, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Hello you newbies! It's great to see a new team step in to maintain this link blog, and I'm pretty excited to see what you get for posting around here.

Excuse me, Pixiecorpse? What areas of English teaching have you done? I've done some part time work while over in Japan and a full time one year contract job in South Korea, both of which were very interesting experiences.

And on second thought, everyone here isn't so much newbies, as it appears you've all had many years of dealing with this subject manner as well as reading WFA.

Welcome! I hope you guys have fun with the blog.

Jamie,

I've taught Comp I and II, Literary Heritage (lit. survey), Intro to Creative Writing and Intro to Fiction Writing. I would love to teach ESL, but I wasn't thinking about that when I got an MFA in Fiction.

Woohoo. WFA is back in business.

Oh, and Caitlin, I love reading your blog.

Oh, and just so you know, something's up with the coding of the site. It appears all broken on the homepage.

Presetyourjet,

I have made some adjustments to the layout, so there may be some differences, but it shouldn't be broken...can I ask what browser you're using?

Seems to be okay in Firefox.

Glad things will continue here. It's good work that needs to be done. :)

Good show so far, guys. :-)

Hope you survive the experience!

Wait, that's what you say when someone joins the X-Men. I think when you join WFA, it's more like "Good luck, lady."
